Mike, a young Black man, struggles to reconcile his childhood superhero fantasies with the harsh realities of life. As a boy, he saw himself as a hero, saving his friend from bullies with his imagined superpowers.

 

However, his heroic act results in detention, and his parents push him toward a more realistic "Plan B" career. Years later, Mike becomes a police officer, an "alter ego" that feels mundane and without the clear-cut morality of his childhood fantasies.

 

When his colleague uses excessive force against a young man, Mike is forced to confront the same injustice he faced as a child. In a powerful moment of defiance, he prepares to intervene, putting on his old cape to reclaim his identity as a hero.
